09/29/26 SECONDARY BULLETIN 

H-BC Secondary Families:

It is officially Quarter 1 Midterm!   HBC Secondary will send home Quarter 1 Midterms on Wednesday, September 30th.  You can always check your students’ progress on JMC.  If you need help logging in, please contact the office. Thursday, October 1, 2026 is an early dismissal for Secondary School Conferences, with HBC Secondary dismissing at 12:45 PM and HBC Elementary dismissing at 1 PM.

OCTOBER 1ST - SECONDARY SCHOOL PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES 

Please mark your calendars for Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, October 1st from 4:00 - 7:30 PM.  Conferences will look similar to Open House where parents/caregivers can come and meet with their students’ respected teachers during the 3.5 hour time block.  Teachers will be available to discuss students’ progress during this time. It is also recommended to check the student(s) JMC account to look at academic progress.  

MENTAL HEALTH PRESENTATION on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2

HBC Secondary will welcome mental health presenter & entertainer Terrence Talley on Friday, October 2, 2026, to share an encouraging message of hope and resilience. Students in grades 6–8 will attend from 9:00–10:00 AM, followed by grades 9–12 from 10:30–11:30 AM. With 19 years of experience speaking to students and adults across the country, Terrence combines humor, powerful storytelling, and personal experiences growing up in Minnesota to connect with students and inspire them to persevere through challenges, support one another, and recognize that they are not alone.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

National Honor Society applications are available from Mrs. Scruggs and are due back on October 19th. The NHS Banquet will be held on November 30th.

10TH GRADERS TO CAREER EXPO (WORTHINGTON) 

Our 10th-grade students attended the Career Expo at the MN West Campus in Worthington on Wednesday, September 23rd. Students had the opportunity to connect with industry professionals, learn more about different career pathways, and explore college programs.

HBC students also brought home the interactive game show trophy for answering the most questions correctly about employment services available throughout Southwest Minnesota! COLLEGE AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR 10TH/11TH/12TH GRADERS

11th Graders & Select 12th Graders to College Fair (Luverne) on Wednesday, September 30th in Luverne.   Numerous colleges will be represented at this event. All Juniors should register with the QR code on Ms. Sandbulte’s door, and Seniors who would like to attend should talk to Ms. Sandbulte.

The Trap Team is partnering with Pheasants Forever to sell rooster raffle tickets for team funds. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets can contact any team member. They will be on sale until September 29th.

UPDATED STUDENT SCHEDULE - SCHEDULE ON JMC

Please make sure you are getting the most updated student schedule on the JMC app/website.  Students were able to change schedules this week.  

ACTION NEEDED:  

It is important that families, if you haven’t done so already,  fill out the free and reduced lunch applications otherwise known as “Application for Educational Benefits”.  Registration link found here:  https://tinyurl.com/y5yz9soj

BACK TO SCHOOL JMC ONLINE REGISTRATION

Thanks to all the parents and families that completed their student online registration through JMC.  It is an easy way for the school to collect the necessary information for school enrollment.  If you have not yet completed registration for your student please do so as soon as possible.  Log into www.hbc.onlinejmc.com.  If you receive a message from the school stating all or a portion of your students registration is incomplete, please act promptly!  Call the office with questions 507-673-2541.

AM BUS CHANGES

For morning bus changes please call or text the bus line--make sure to identify your student and the bus number they are riding:  507-962-3240 Ext. 4.

SECOND ENTREE PURCHASE: 

Students in grades K-5 may purchase a second entree with their meal.  The entree is $3.00.  If choosing a second entree, students may pay cash or the family lunch account will be charged. Students MUST write their name on the Cafeteria Sheet if they want a second entree.

Please make Attendance and Getting to Class on Time a PRIORITY!  Students who have perfect attendance & NO tardies will be part of the Doughnut Club for Quarter 1!
