Dear H-BC Elementary Families,
February is off to a wonderful start at H-BC Elementary! This month we are celebrating I Love to Read Month alongside Black History Month, and our classrooms are buzzing with meaningful learning, special activities, and powerful conversations. Be sure to ask your child how their class is participating—we love when learning extends beyond our school walls and into your homes.
As you read through this week’s Parent Connection, you’ll find important information about upcoming swimming lessons for grades 2–5, summer recreation registration deadlines, key calendar reminders, and several exciting opportunities happening at our school and within our Patriot Pals Childcare Center. There is truly something for everyone, and we are grateful for the continued partnership we share with our families.
February Is: I Love To Read Month, Black History Month & our 100th Day of School. Ask your child how their class is participating!
GRADES 2-5 SWIMMING LESSONS: Students in grades 2-5 will again be taking swimming lessons in Luverne as part of the Physical Education curriculum at H-BC Elementary. Parents will be receiving the document at the bottom of this newsletter from Mr. DeBoer. If your child needs a swim suit, now is the time to purchase. The lessons run March 16-20.
SUMMER RECREATION REGISTRATION: It’s true, summer recreation planning is underway! Click on the links below to register your child/ren. Don’t miss these deadlines!
Baseball and softball sign up forms are due February 12th. Coach Pitch, T-Ball, and Little Sluggers are due March 12th.
Baseball: boys grades 3-9 (only 9th graders who meet age cut off)
Softball: girls grades 3-9 (only 9th graders who meet age cut off)
Little Sluggers: Must be 3 years old by June 1st

February 13/16- No School - Presidents Holiday
February 17 - 100th Day of School
February 19- Evening Conferences
March 13 - Kindergarten Round Up (for student in the 26-27 class)
March 13 - No class for the current Kindergarten students
PATRIOT PALS CHILDCARE CENTER: Ask a parent with a child in Patriot Pals and you will hear all the good things happening! Interested in learning more about how Patriot Pals may be the perfect fit for your family? Email t.voss@isd671.net for a tour or information.
(repeat) 2026-27 Kindergarten Round Up: Do you have a child who will attend Kindergarten next year? The H-BC Elementary School Kindergarten Round Up will be Friday, March 13. Plan ahead for this all day school experience for your child. Parents attend 8:15-9:15. Children who will be five on or before August 31, 2026, are invited!
(repeat) GENTLY USED CLOTHES: Our Patriot Pals Childcare Center is in need of children's clothes sizes 3-6 months to kids 5/6. Donations are appreciated.

(repeat) PACK THE PANTRY: Pack the Pantry has been extended for February! The H-BC ELEMENTARY Student Council is hosting an event to benefit the Sioux Falls Ronald McDonald House. See the flyer at the bottom of this newsletter for more details.
